South China Agricultural University, referred to as "Huanong", is located in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It is a national key university and a national "double first-class" construction university. The school was founded in 1909 as the Guangdong provincial agricultural experiment field and attached agricultural workshop. In 1952, South China Agricultural College was established by merging parts of former Sun Yat-Sen University College of Agriculture, Lingnan University College of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine and Department of Pests and Diseases of Guangxi University College of Agriculture, under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1984, it was renamed South China Agricultural University. In 2000, the school was placed under the supervision of Guangdong Province by the Ministry of Agriculture.
As of March 2023, the school has a total area of 8,261 acres, including 4,457 acres of Tianhe Wushan campus, 3,804 acres of Zengcheng teaching and research base, and a total construction area of 1.4 million square meters; there are 25 colleges (departments) and 101 undergraduate majors; There are 11 post-doctoral research stations, 14 doctoral degree authorized first-level disciplines, 1 doctoral professional degree category, 30 master's degree authorized first-level disciplines, and 19 master's professional degree categories; there are 3,438 faculty members and 50,000 students More than 38,000 undergraduates and 12,000 postgraduates (including international students)
